Just read it, should i stay in this? Question: Um... well. I am the Albertville alabama aggie band. Next year. we are going to pasadena to play at the rose bowl, we were selected out of 15 bands around the world. WORLD. that includes japan and africa and all those places. that is a HUGE honor. i hear all this amazing stuff, and it makes me want to go, but i dont enjoy playing my instrument. the alto saxophone. my mom has to put in the nonrefundable deposit in for some of it in march, so i need some opinions.people say its boring in middle school. which it is, and they say atleast try next year, but i have to march 6 1/2 miles for this parade. WOW. and it gets hot thereee. Hmm. :/
Answer:
The weather will be mild enough in January. It's cold in the morning! (Brrr, it's been horrid cold here, like just under 60 during the day. Yes, that's freezing to me!)
How long have you been playing your instrument in a serious, focused manner? If it's been less than about 5 years, give it a bit more time, especially with the upcoming Rose Bowl trip. Most of my teen son's friends didn't find their instruments *fun* until they were playing for 4 or so years, now they really enjoy them.
Don't worry about the parade distance, you won't have a problem. Just start walking and walking more over time. It's really not that far, and you'll probably have a bump up in strength by then, most teens have several during high school.
Being part of the Rose Parade/Rose Bowl may be one of the most amazing experiences you'll have in your life. My son's band instructor, from when he was in jr high, works with the Honor Band that is in the parade every year, and the kids are totally psyched about the experience even though they live around Pasadena. One of my friends was a Rose Queen, and my son has had several Rose Queen and Princess friends. They go through all the hassle and spend the time because being part of Rose Parade is a big deal and honor. Besides, it will look good on your college apps!
If you don't go, you may regret it. Think about it! Besides, don't you want to go to California and hang out in Pasadena? Imagine the photos you'll get! = )
Good luck with your decision!
