I'm not sure how much you are looking to spend, so I would say that it's best to do your homework and use online research to find available places to stay that fit within your budget. What kinds of activities are there in Anchorage? Answer: Sure, it is ok. We love visitors! The temps will be about 20 in daytime and maybe minus 10 at night. There will be lots of snow. There are always festivals and fairs of some sort going on. There will probably be fireworks for New Years Eve. You can always go skiing, snowshoeing, and all sorts of other outdoor activities. How do I go about shipping my dog from Phoenix Arizona to Anchorage Alaska? Question: I've purchased a dog from a breeder in phoenix and need to have her shipped via continental airlin to ANchorage Alaska. I checked the airlines for flights, and they have one available. Now all I need to know is on little thing; how do I register my breeders to officially drop her off and check her into the flight? Answer: Why are you asking this here? You need to call the airline and discuss this with them. Be sure to keep track of who you have talked to. People fly unaccompained minors (childern) all the time. The procedures for unacompianed pets is the very same thing - except the pet goes in the luggage area - and they have a different rate. Last - you might not be able to ship this dog in one trip. It all depends on how long the delays are between the start and destination terminals. There are both federal and state animal protection laws that govern how long an animal can be in transit. If the delay between connecting flights is too long - the airline will not allow you to book it - not unless it gets picked up - in say Seattle - and then put back into the system a few hours later by someone who has taken care of it. You need to be discussing this with the airlines. DO NOT let the breeder make the reservations!!!! No doubt they have ZERO experience shipping to Alaska. If something goes wrong with the flight or schedule - YOU need to be the one who made the reservation and has the authority to make changes. Not the seller. Hope this helps. |

Also, what are jobs like right now? Are they hard to come by? Answer: Well really what part of spring? Up here early spring can be cold still (We still get snow in March). Late spring can be messy with break up. However if you plan on buying a house wait until spring when the snow melts. You'll see more of what you need to, such as any potholes, leaks, general discarded junk, or ..well 'lassie landmines'. If you plan on renting there are many apartments, plus some people have condos to rent as well. Suggest having a car, but to me that bit would be for anyplace. We do have a bus system, but I always hate waiting for a bus late at night or in the cold. |

Answer: Absolutely!! I'm from Anchorage, too, and I've driven to the lower 48. It will take you awhile, but you'll get there. It's a beautiful drive, and once you're on the Alcan Highway (upper Canada) you may want to bring a tent and camp out for a night or two. It's a ton of fun with a friend. I wouldn't rely on google earth, though, using it around here for me sometimes hasn't worked that great--not too accurate.I'd go to borders and look in some map books for specific instructions. (By the way, while you're on a roadtrip, after spending some time in Anchorage, driving to Juneau (capitol) is beautiful) It takes about 2 days depending on how fast you go, and on the last part you take a ferry to get from Skagway to Juneau itself. Personally, I think Juneau is one of the prettiest towns I've ever seen. Surrounded by mountains everywhere you go.) Hope I helped! |
