Iowa.....................!?
Question:
Hey! Im a brit, and i will be driving across america. Since i will be passing through Iowa, is there any nice places for a tourist to see in Iowa? Anything? Cheers!

Answer:
Unfortunatly No. Skip Iowa and drive through Missouri. It's just south of Iowa and theres much more to do. In Missouri, they have two large cities. Kansas City and St. Louis. In Iowa they have Des Moines, but it's not that large, and the rest of Iowa is litteraly one big corn feild. Plus, in missouri you'd be driving, on a highway that connects the two cities, so you would be able to see both. If your going to chicago first, take the highway down to St.Louis instead of Iowa. You wont regret it. Iowa is so BORING!

Why is Iowa such an important state during the elections?
Question:
It seams every year Iowa makes the biggest headlines when it comes to running for office. Whats wrong with Kansas, or kentucky, or Idaho? What is the big deal with Iowa?

Answer:
It kicks off full blown campaigning and determines the leaders in the pack. The first primary means no surprise candidates will show at the last minute. And it does not determine the Presidency. Dukakis finished third in Iowa and still got the nomination. George Bush Sr and Ronald Reagan did not win Iowa either.

What is the Iowa law for weather related school cancellations and number of days that need to be made up?
Question:
After 5 days of weather related public school cancellations, does the state of Iowa grant any grace days that don't need to be made up at the end of the school year?

Answer:
I think the school year consists of 148 days, with 37 days each “school quarter” days of attendance in Iowa to be accredited. Usually 2 days are "built-in" as Snow days and the other days need to be made up or additional days added to make the maximum school days of attendance. I am sorry that eastern Iowa has been effected so bad by many major snow events. Does this help?

What is the coolest part of Iowa in the Summer time? Oh, and how Far is it from Las Vegas to Iowa?
Question:
I am planning a trip to iowa and need to know the coldest part of it in the month of July. Also, if you know the part that would appreciate my tourism more and how I can find a month to month rental there that would be great. Thanx for any help in advance.

Answer:
While I don't think the term "cold" could accurately be applied to any part of Iowa in July, the avg. temp in NE Iowa near the Mississippi & the Minnesota border probably is the lowest in the state. For monthly rentals, choose your town (most towns in that area are not large enough to be called cities) and consult the local newspaper for available properties. Are you planning to live there on a permanent basis or is this a short 1-month visit? You might consider cabins on the Mississippi from Dubuque to the Minn. border. There are lots of them. Some of the towns are: Guttenberg, MacGregor/Marquette, Harpers Ferry, Lansing. Lots of cabins & vacation rentals in those places. Book early; they are popular.

How will the Iowa Hawkeyes finish in the Big Ten? Will they sneak in a Big Ten championship?
Question:
Based on the schedule, a few recent "off the field" problems, and some early polls not expecting anything substantial, will they have a surprising "up" year? This seems to be the norm during the Ferentz era. He very much enjoys being (under the radar), and being a long time Iowa fan, I have to say that I agree! Can we get past both Wisconsin and Penn State? If so this may be a wonderful year for the Hawkeyes!

Answer:
Nobody ever picks the Hawks but they are always right in the thick of it. This year should be no different. As for the moron (tj w) who said they will never beat Ohio St- I guess I have to agree- Since they don't play each other this season. Next time, consult a schedule before popping off.

Are there any Iowa or national grants or scholarships that I can apply for to student teach abroad?
Question:
My Iowa tuition grant expired because I am in my fifth year. I was planning to student teach in Italy in the spring semester but was not expecting to have to pay an extra $5,000 for tuition in the fall. I am from a single parent family and can't afford this extra cost, can anyone please help me? I've looked at fastweb and have done google searches, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Answer:
Apply to the education department in Iowa. In your fifth year, it's time you went out and got a job to pay for your "eternal" studies. And after 4 plus years of education, quit using your mother's unmarried status as an excuse.

Has anybody attended Upper Iowa University and had success finding a job? Is it a good school?
Question:
I want to attend a school that is online, but that is also a real college and not just an online one. I just want some opinions on Upper Iowa.

Answer:
Upper Iowa is another one of those private 4-yr colleges that was dying on the vine until it discovered online education. There are also campuses in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, & Canada + several US states. Yes, it's "real" in the sense that there are still buildings and a campus in Fayette. It's but one of a long list of such "colleges": See this for more: http://www.jobprofiles.org/schools.htm
