Kansas government question. How long does it take a bill to be passed into law?
Question:
The Kansas Senate just passed a couple of bills concerning the age to get your learners permit, restricted licence and some other teenage driving laws. Does anybody know how long it will take for the Kansas House to vote on this bill and what thier deadline is that they have to vote one way or the other?

Answer:
There is no real time frame for the passing of bills into laws in Kansas or probably any other place. A bill can be bounced around for years in various reincarnations or it can be passed into law in a matter of weeks. But here are some sites that will at least show you the process taken... How a Bill Becomes Law http://skyways.lib.ks.us/ksleg/KLRD/about/how_bill_law.pdf (Kansas Legislative Research Dept) Legislative Procedure in Kansas http://skyways.lib.ks.us/ksleg/KLRD/about/legproc.pdf (V ERY long and detailed) How a Bill Becomes Law http://www.bipac.net/page.asp?g=AGC_KS&content=bill_to_law&p arent=BIPAC (AGC of Kansas) Hope these are of some help. What did the Kansas-nebraska act ensure the residents of the territory to do with regard to slavery?
Question:
What did the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 ensure the residents of the territory to do with regard to slavery?

Answer:
The Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed the Kansas and Nebraska territory to govern for itself and decide whether or not to be a slave or free state. By a vote of its residents, the territories would either become a slave or a free state. Consequently, controversies arose between Northern and Southern states. Many lives were lost. Some may argue that the act was fair because it gave the decision to the majority of the people; however, we all know from experience that just because the majority of people may argue one way does not make it right.

What are the requirements for claiming residency in Kansas?
Question:
I want to attend the University of Kansas, and I have family that lives in the state. But I live in Kansas City, Missouri, about ten minutes from the state line. Obviously, in-state tuition is a lot cheaper than out-of-state. I want to claim residency with the family I have living there, but I'm unsure of the requirements for that. Does anybody know?

Answer:
Usually you have to live in a state for a year, some schools require more to get in-state tuition. If you move to a new state and start school, you will be an out-of-state student and will be charged out of state tuition for the duration of your studies there. (It won't be dropped to in-state rates after a year) because most schools will not allow you to count the time you are enrolled in college towards your residency requirements. Sorry.

Is Comcast the only cable provider in Olathe Kansas or is there another one?
Question:
I live in Olathe Kansas (Kansas City) and was told by my roommate who apparently did some investigation that the only cabe service provider we could get is Comcast. Is this true? We've had Comcast for a little over a year now and it seems that our bill has gone up concedribly since we first signed on. We need cable in order to get wireless internet but with what Comcast is now charging us we may need to drop it if we don't find a cheaper provider.

Answer:
No, cable is a localized monopoly. The only other option you have is your telephone company for internet and a satellite company for your television. It also depends on how far away from the city you live which options you have. Check your local phone book.
