How to become a legal resident in Louisiana, if I am a legal resident of California?
Question:
I am in the military and have been stationed in Louisiana for three years now, I believe I still am a resident of California, but how do i become a legal resident of Louisiana? I just recently brought my brother to Louisiana as well and I am trying to obtain legal residency states on him so that I can file for guardianship of him here instead of having to travel back to California.

Answer:
Most states require only that you have lived there for a certain amount of time, usually 6 to 12 months, but that will apply to your brother as well. Also, many states have an exception allowing military members to file such actions in the state they currently reside in, but you shouldn't need the exception having been there this long. The exception might keep you from having to wait for your brother to be there long enough though. You will need to contact a LA licensed attorney to be sure. Most attorneys in military areas are familiar with these things already. If you have no plans to move back to Cali, you might need to change your residency status to LA with the military, just to ward off anything that might pop that you have not thought of. You should be able to do that right now on your own.

Why was Louisiana so important during the civil war?
Question:
I'm doing a creative writing assignment for my AP class and am kind of stuck here...Also, was Louisiana against secession?I believe they were but the articles I've found sort of contradict each other.

Answer:
This might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shreveport,_Louisiana Quote from this page: During the U.S. Civil War, Shreveport was capital of Louisiana (1863-1865). The city was a Confederate stronghold and was the site of the headquarters of the Trans-Mississippi Department of the Confederate Army. Isolated from events in the east, the Civil War continued in the Trans-Mississippi theater for several weeks after Robert E. Lee's surrender in April 1865, and the Trans-Mississippi was the last Confederate Command to surrender (May 26, 1865). Confederate President Jefferson Davis attempted to flee to Shreveport when he left Richmond but was captured in Georgia en route. And, also this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_New_Orleans_(Civi l_War) The Battle of New Orleans (April 25 to May 1, 1862) was the bloodless Union capture of New Orleans during the American Civil War. Having fought past Forts Jackson and St. Philip, the Union capture of the city itself was unopposed, sparing the destruction suffered by many other Southern cities. However, a firm and severe administration of the city by its military governor caused lasting resentment. This capture of the largest Confederate city was a major turning point and an incident of international importance.

Is a succession needed in Louisiana for a jointly owned property to removed the deceased from the title?
Question:
My father and mother own a home in Louisiana. My father passed away and my mother wants to sell the home. Both their names are on the title. We are confused as to how to remove him from the title. I searched on the internet and it appears laws differ by state. We consulted an attorney that advised succession which cost about $2000. Is there any way to avoid a succession in Louisiana?

Answer:
I'm not exactly sure what a "succession" is, but was your father's estate (no matter how modest) probated after he died? That's what needs to happen. The home title should be transferred as part of that process.

How do I get Louisiana Medicaid to pay for surgery outside of the state?
Question:
There isn't any bariatric surgeons in Louisiana that will accept Medicaid. There is a doctor in Dallas, Texas that accepts Medicaid, but how do I go about getting my LA Medicaid to pay for it? It will be Lap-Band surgery. Thanks

Answer:
They wont. You live in Louisiana and are in their Medicaid program. It does not cover out of state procedures. All you had to do was ask your social worker. You have to move to Dallas and apply for Medicaid there, or transfer your Medicaid file. Did you find out that the surgery is covered in Texas under Medicaid? Even though the Dallas doctor accepts Medicaid, he means Medicaid in his state. It is not the same in every state.

How is Louisiana's law code different than the other states?
Question:
I know that all 49 of the other states base their laws off of the English Common Law, but Louisiana bases theirs off of the French law codes, so what are some major differences between Louisiana and the other 49 states?

Answer:
Louisiana's legal system is the only one in the US to be based on civil or Roman law, specifically the Code Napoléon of France. Under Louisiana state law, cases may be decided by judicial interpretation of the statutes, without reference to prior court cases, whereas in other states and in the federal courts the common law prevails, and decisions are generally based on previous judicial interpretations and findings. In actual practice, Louisiana laws no longer differ radically from US common law, and most Louisiana lawyers and judges now cite previous cases in their arguments and rulings

Louisiana Residents: Do you agree that your Governor should not accept federal stimulus dollars?
Question:
He can give it to us in California. It seems that everything is good and well in Louisiana.

Answer:
If I was a governor of a state I would do everything to keep the federal goverment as much out of my state as possible.

how to make the perfect louisiana bread pudding?
Question:
I've been looking to baking a louisiana style bread pudding as a treat for some friends. The problem is that when I make it, although delicious, it usually falls apart as soon as I remove the mould, which of course is not as pleasing to the eye. So can I get some soul food lovers to help me out with a good recipe or some pointers to get a perfect bread pudding. Best answer wins him/herself 10 points.

Answer:
I'm more of a gourmet cook but I do own several southern cookbooks. I like this one because of the butter in it. Bread Pudding 6 slices French bread (not sourdough), crust removed 4 T (1/2 stick) Butter 3 Eggs 2 Egg yolks 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 cups milk 1/2 cup heavy cream 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla Confectioners sugar for sprinkling Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Have ready a 2 quart baking dish. Butter one side of each slice of bread and set aside. Put the eggs, yolks, sugar, and salt in a large bowl and beat until thoroughly mixed. Pour the milk and cream into a heavey buttomed saucepan and heat until scalded (tiny bubbles will form around the edges of the pan). Remove from the het and, whisking briskly, slowly add the egg mixture. Stir in the vanilla. Put a kettle of water on to boil. Layer the bread butter side up, in the baking dish. Strain the custard into the dish (the bread will float to the top). Set the baking dish in a larger pan and place on the middle rack of the oven. Pull out the rack just enougn so that you can pour boiling water into the pan - the water should come halfway up the sides of the baking dish. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the custard is set except for a slight tremble in the center. Remove froom the oven and sprinkle confectioners' sugar on top. This should be very rich and you will get rave reviews. Good luck my friend.
