Well it depends where you are in MD! If you are on the eastern shore --Baltimore is 3 hours away, and if you are in baltimore Garrett County is 3 hours away..But if on the eastern shore garrett county could take as long as 6 hours to get too. And garrett county is by deep creek lake hope it helped

How can Maryland police departments use a polygraph when it is against state law?
Question:
Maryland state police departments require a polygraph test to become a police officer, but Maryland state law explicitly states that an employer cannot use a polygraph exam as a condition of employment. How is this legal or possible?

Answer:
Because the law makes an specific exception for law enforcement personnel. Those short notes you see on everyday employment applications from other businesses only have a small snippet of the law itself, as the real statute is quite long. (see Links) To quote MD Labor Code, Title 3, Subtitle 7, Section§ 3-702. "Lie detector tests." (3) This section does not apply to an individual who applies for employment or is employed: (i) as a law enforcement officer, as defined in § 3-101 of the Public Safety Article; This article likewise makes exceptions for Corrections officers and federal agents. While polygraphs are flawed and far from perfect, they can be useful tools in psychologically deterring people with criminal or drug histories from becoming cops.

How does a Maryland resident buy and register a car out of state from a seller in another state?
Question:
Here's the deal: I am a Maryland resident in the military, stationed out of state. I am buying a car from someone else in the military whose car is registered in a different state. I cannot get to Maryland any time soon to do registration/DMV things. Is there any way I can do all of this online? If not, how long do I have from buying the car before I have to register it?

Answer:
You generally can't register a vehicle "On Line" But your in the military and stationed in another state, etc. There are Many regulations that make it easy for you to register your car in the state that your stationed in,now. Then when you are mustered out you register in Maryland. I have registered vehicles here in NY for Navy personnel who's Insurance company insured the vehicle with a Ship address or even a Barracks. Look into It. And as long as you have proof of military duty, Your license can remain in Maryland.Good luck and If you go to the states DMV web site you can print any document you may need.

How good a state is Maryland for safety and raising a family?
Question:
I was just having a bit of a hard time finding some good links for information about this; I know there are some ghetto like areas around Washington DC, but what about the rest of Maryland? (I'm asking because me and my lady may wish to move there, as I've been accepted into the University of Maryland) Does anyone know any good info (or links or websites) as to how good a state Maryland is as far as safety and good place to raise a family goes?

Answer:
Well, I have lived here my entire life. I am from near DC originally, and my wife is from the far off Eastern Shore. But I take since you are going to University of Maryland, you would want to be reasonably close to it? Generally Prince George's County is one of the worst . It has a lot of crime and poverty, the UMD campus is not so bad though, but that isn't really a place to live if you are married with kids. Montgomery County is a strange mix where some southern areas like Wheaton are nearly as bad as PG county, where as Bethesda is one of the most affluent and educated in the US. Northern parts of MontCo become progressively more suburban and quiet, eventually becoming rural. Areas to look for with safety in mind are away from the concentrated urban centers, but still near enough to get to necessities. Some areas out towards Columbia and Clarksville are also nice. Not sure what else I can offer, but this website has a good map of where crime tends to concentrate: http://spotcrime.com/md

What taxes does a Maryland resident pay on inheritance money from out-of-state relative?

Answer:

What 4 year college in Maryland should I attend?
Question:
I live in maryland and can go to any college in maryland but I'm probably not qualified for Johns Hopkins. I want to major in Biology or something related to it and want to go to a college that is favored by medical schools. Any college that medical schools like, that will help me prepare for med school, and that is in Maryland will do. Note: The 4 year college I attend must be in maryland but getting noticed by any medical college in the United States is fine. Thanks and to clarify, I'm looking for colleges only in Maryland. Thank You.

Answer:
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND COLLEGE PARK

Why was Maryland the most important border state?
Question:
I know that there were Confederate sympathizers and also Union supporters and Lincoln supressed violence there [someone care to clarify?], but that's about it. That doesn't make Maryland that important because other border states were like that too, right?

Answer:
Because of it's location to the capitol.Baltimore was a very important city as well.

What are some colleges in Maryland with a good music program?
Question:
I'm planning on majoring in music, so what are some good colleges in Maryland for that? I'm going to apply for Peabody, but I have to have some other back up plan as well. How's the University of Maryland?

Answer:
Hey! I just went to grad school at the Peabody Conservatory! It's lovely in Baltimore...anyway, I would have to agree w/ the guy above me. I went to the University of Maryland (College Park) for a Masterclass, and their performing arts center is really nice. The campus is also great, it has an energetic feel. You should definitely check them out - you may like it better if you want a "large university" feel (although I suppose if you go to Peabody you can go up to the Homewood campus of Hopkins to do "campusy" stuff - although Univ. of Maryland has a good football team AND marching band). Good luck! I would say def. Peabody and University of Maryland - College Park for sure!

Reloacating to Atlanta from Maryland, any suggestions on websites for the moving process?
Question:
My wife, and 3 daughters are moving to North Atlanta from Maryland in the summer. We need all the help we can get. I need to make sure we do this the right way. Any advice, suggestions, websites, or anything that points un in the right direction will help.

Answer:
You probally want to go to www.ajcjobs.com to find what you want. Or if you are home searching, the other link is a good one. Or if you are looking for things to do, the Atlanta Magazine will help too. And, you also probally want to ignore the narrow minded poster above. Atlanta is a great town with lots of great opportunities!
