Michigan??????????
Question:
I live in Michigan, but I don't get why so many people visit it every year. I mean, it's just a regular state, just like every other state( except Hawaii, that's an island). Sure, a lot of people come for the Tulip Time festival, but other than that, I don't know why they come. Please help me!!!!!!!!

Answer:
As a Michigander for 9 years, I can tell you that I think it's one of the most beautiful states I've ever lived in and visited. Now, that being said, I'm wondering where in MI you live. I lived on both the east and west costs and can tell you that the west coast is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more scenic than the east coast. Besides that, lots of people have second homes and stuff in MI. (I, unfortunately, am not one of those.) So in a nutshell I think tourism is high in MI because of: scenic qualities (MI has the most lakes of any state); convenience (tons of Chicago people vacation in MI); and price (it's relatively cheap). Anyhoo, that's what I think.

michigan.....?
Question:
i'm doing a project about michigan and need some info like the 10 biggest cities , top 5 festivals, population, maps (physical and political) if you can help thx,.,,,if u can't try to

Answer:
Well, I live in Michigan so I will help if i can. Here is a website that lists the top ten counties cities and villiages. (these are catagory names) www.cibermichigan.org/1_0/topten.html by the way alot of the cities named in this are basically suburbs of Detroit and Grand Rapids. Another website that has a list of information that may be of help is http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/26000.html. I hope this helps.

What does a Michigan resident need to do to buy a car in Arizona?
Question:
I live in Michigan, but I'm staying in Arizona for 6 months. I want to buy a used car here, and I don't want to have to go back to Michigan to get plates, etc. What do I need to do? Will I need to get an Arizona Driver's License? If I do, will I have to give up my Michigan Driver's License, only to get it back in 6 months?

Answer:
If you are staying in AZ for 6 months, you are no doubt a resident of AZ and need AZ plates and insurance. If you should move in the future to another state, like MI, you would need to transfer plates and insurance to your new state.

What are the michigan runaway laws for someone who is 17 years old?
Question:
I'm 17 i live in michigan and i hate my house, have hated it for as long as i can remember.... I want to move to arizona but i dont want there to be anyway that i can be arrested and brought back to michigan for any reason. Can the police really do anything if i just leave?

Answer:
Assuming you have not formally empancipated yourself, YES. You parents can contact the police and have you brought back (against your will if necessary). While you can petition for emancipation already at age 16 you a) have to do this in a court of law, b) the parent/guardian has to approve and c) you have to demonstrate the ability to manage your own finances so that you are not a burden on the system. That is a lot of responsibility for someone at 17. My suggestion is to just grit your teeth and stick it out for one more year. Then as a legal adult you are free to go and do whatever you please. You can go to AZ free and clear, and nobody can pull you back. Good luck. http://www.bostoncoop.net/lcd/emancipation/michigan.html Please note the following information: The court shall issue an emancipation order if it determines that emancipation is in the best interest of the minor and the minor establishes *ALL* of the following: (a) THAT THE MINOR'S PARENT OR GUARDIAN DOES NOT OBJECT TO THE PETITION; OR IF A PARENT OR GUARDIAN OBJECTS TO THE PETITION, THAT THE OBJECTING PARENT OR GUARDIAN IS NOT PROVIDING THE MINOR WITH SUPPORT (b) THAT THE MINOR IS AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE. (c) That the minor is a resident of the state. (d) That the minor has demonstrated the ability to manage his or her financial affairs, including proof of employment or other means of support. Other means of support does not include general assistance or aid to families with dependent children administered under the social welfare act, Act No. 280 of the Public Acts of 1939, being sections 400.1 to 400.121 of the Michigan Compiled Laws. (e) That the minor has the ability to manage his or her personal and social affairs, including, but not limited to, proof of housing. (f) That the minor understands his or her rights and responsibilities under this act as an emancipated minor.

What precentage of Eastern Michigan University pre med students are accepted to medical school?
Question:
I am deciding where to transfer to to finish my undergrad in southeastern Michigan. How much does your undergrad degree (from which school) affect your acceptance to medical school? I was also wondering where I could find the percentages of students accepted to medical school from Michigan universities. Thanks!

Answer:
Please see the first link regarding the wisdom of using the acceptance rate to medical school as a criterion for choosing a college. The name of the college granting your undergraduate degree will have some influence on the admission committee, but the amount of influence is likely to be less than other factors such as GPA, MCAT score, amount of clinical, volunteer and research experience, quality of letters of recommendations, quality of personal statement, and how well your interview goes. If you can get into U. Michigan, you will be in a school with enough prestige to influence the admission committee positively. Michigan State would be another good choice. Eastern Michigan is not considered as highly as either of those two and does not produce nearly as many medical school applicants as Michigan or Michigan State. You do not have to have straight A's to get into medical school. However, some people with straight A's do NOT get into medical school, and there is a rough correlation between GPA and MCAT score and percent admitted. See second link and realize that admission standards may be higher now than they were when the data for the grid was collected.

What makes the University of Michigan so Highly Ranked?
Question:
I am planning on attending garduate school to get my Masters degree in social work (I have a bachelors degree in psychology). I live in Michigan and the main schools that I am looking at are Wayne State University and the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor. U of M has been ranked as the #1 school of social work in the country for 10 years straight. Why is the U of M ranked so highly? Would I be better off spending more money going to the U of M or spending less and going to Wayne State? Would I have a better chance at getting a job with the U of M degree or will they both be equal? Thanks. U of M pros: Higher ranked, more prestigious. Wayne State pros: Closer to where I live, costs less. Which is a better option?

If you have a shot to go to a top 10 grad school in your profession and it is a good fit for you, by all means do it.

Is it possible to turn a Michigan Basement into a fully finished basement?
Question:
For everyone who doesn't know: a michigan basement is a partially "dug-out" basement. Not finished off, usually with dirt walls & floor sometimes partially "finished" with cement or cinder blocks and a cement floor. I am looking at purchasing a home and I found one I like, with the exception of the michigan basement.

Answer:
Without seeing the basement I think it would be hard to answer that question, but here I go. You have a couple of options: 1) raise the house and construct a normal basement - it's not as pricey as you would think. 2) build cinder block walls to finish the basement. If you decide upon option 2 make sure that you build enough support for the floor of the house above. Anything is possible you just have to be willing to do the work.
