Tennessee?
Question:
Gosh! I've read a lot about KY and TN. I'm from Pennsylvania. I have alittle obsession with Nashville and Tennessee (I dont know why). My boyfriend went down there for college and I visted him 3 times while he was down there for a year. Ever since then TN has been on my mind. What I would like to know is whats the difference between PA and TN? Pros and Cons? I've said about moving there but ya know, family is here and stuff. But give me anything you know about the two. Friendly? Taxes? Cheaper living? Working field? People? Scenery? Anything helps. Thanks!

Answer:
I am from Tennessee, and I live in PA, so I think I can help you out here! First of all, my heart is in TN. I can't wait to move back there, but it will probably be 10 years before I can. TN and PA look very similar in parts, the mountain areas are similar and the wildlife is similar. The biggest difference for me is the people. People in TN seem to care more about others. They are nicer and have more common courtesy. They wave at strangers and say "good morning" when they see each other. Walmart is a social environment, not like PA where people run each other over. The job market in Southern PA has a lot to do with commuters to DC. TN isn't closed up for the job market, but it could be better. The cost of living is a LOT cheaper in TN. Houses are a lot cheaper too. I saw a 4 bedroom, 2 acres, mountain view, in-ground pool in TN for 185,000. Same house here would be 500,000. I'm partial to East Tennessee. You are close enough to everything. You can go skiing an hour away, you can go to the beach with a 6 hour drive, you can go to Dollywood (whoo-hoo!). The mountains are awesome for hiking. The climate is moderate year-round. It's never smoldering hot or freeeeeezing cold like PA, but you also don't get a lot of snow, so that's a downside for me. I love the snow! All in all, I like living in PA but I would rather live in TN. That's where I will end up in life, and hopefully early enough that my kids can enjoy it.

What are good cosmetology schools in Tennessee?
Question:
I want to be a cosmetologist. I live in Tennessee and is trying to find some good schools to go to. Does anyone know an affordable school in Tennessee.

Answer:
Tennessee has lots of good cosmetology schools, some small single-campus ones and some well-known national chains like Regency and Empire Beauty Schools. I also read that it's one of the top paying states for cosmetology salaries, so that's cool! There are several sites that you can easily get information from all the cosmetology schools in your area - they'll be able to send you the tuition cost and other information to help you decide. Here are a couple that have lots of schools to choose from in Tennessee.

How do you train a Tennessee Walking horse that paces to do the running walk?
Question:
I normally help train hunters and Western Pleasure horses but I've been asked to help a student train her Tennessee Walker to be a show horse. His major problem is that he paces instead of doing the running walk. How do you fix that?

Answer:
The first thing you do is to 'check up' the horse. Most pacey TWH's have simply been allowed to pace and have gotten into the habit. These can be corrected through checking up. This involves slowing the horse with the bit until it breaks it gait. Then while still holding back on the reins the horse is sped up with the legs. If the habit is too ingrained it will take a LOT of work to correct. If checking up will not do it, then it is because the horse will not break out of the pace. Various methods are used on such horses. Occasionally ankle chains on a few rides will break it. Pad the ankles so that no discomfort from the chains are felt. Only the bouncing and the noise is needed. Re shoeing with a slightly shorter toe on the front foot. Careful here you do not want to overdo this as it can lame them. This is why that I only take a little extra off with a rasp, not a nippers. On the trail change the terrain. A pace is harder for them to accomplish in rough or soft ground. So while riding down the gravel road, ease over near the side where the loose gravel is piled and ride there. To be honest this is a job that if you are new to you will need help. There are subtle variances in the gaits that you will need to learn and be able to spot and correct.

Can a Tennessee hospital refuse to bill your insurance company and bill you instead?
Question:
A Tennessee hospital refused to bill my insurance company and attached a lien to my settlement for the full amount of the bill. They would have got a discount rate if they billed the insurance company.

Answer:
Yes. No medical provider EVER has to bill your insurance. And if you're asking them to bill an insurance company that is not THEIR "in network" health insurance company, they have even LESS duty to do it. Most of the time, though, they WILL bill your HEALTH insurance. They will most of the time bill workers comp. They rarely will bill an auto insurance policy. Since you're talking about a lein on a settlement, I"m guessing that you wanted them to bill someone ELSE'S auto insurance policy, which is flat out impossible. And, your settlement amount INCLUDES medical bills, AND, the other person's insurance will NEVER issue a partial medical bill payment before the claim is entirely settled. Your attorney submitted the medical bills in full - so if you want YOUR payout based on the full amount, it's only fair that the hospital also gets paid the full amount. Can't have your cake and eat it, too.

What is the average annual property taxes for land in Tennessee?
Question:
I am looking to buy between 10 to 50 acres of land in Tennessee, and would be very interested in receiving personal examples or typical ranges of what the annual property tax of land in Tennessee is. Thank you in advance. I understand that tax rates vary, but it was my hope that the question would attract various answers containing personal examples from a variety of areas in which I would then research further. It was my intent to attract answers of personal examples.

Answer:
Each county sets it own rates. Asking the average across such a broad range is like a man who has one foot in a bucket of ice and the other in boiling water and saying "on average, the temperature is nice" Also, in some areas, the tax rate for undeveloped land is less than that for land with buildings on it. When you figure out where in Tennessee you want to buy, call the county property tax office and ask about the tax rates. I hope this helps. Gary

What college in Tennessee should I attend to become a family physcian?
Question:
I want to be a family doctor, but I don't know of any college in Tennessee that offer all the courses I will need. I want to go to one college for everything not pre med at one and the rest at another. Will I have to go out of state?

Answer:
Vanderbilt offers almost every major you can think of. I'm applying there (I hope I get accepted!) & I'm sure they have what you want to major in. UT-Knoxville probably also has what youre looking for, but I've heard Vandy's medical school is better

Does the state of Tennessee pay for full scholarships to the University of Tennessee if you qualify?
Question:
Hi I have a friend that told me that the State of Tennessee will pay for a FULL scholarship to the University Of Tennessee if you have a gpa of 3.8 and at least 100 hours of community service. Is this true, and if it is do any other states such as Florida have a similar system in place? I thought full scholarships were hard to get, but this seems pretty easy.

Answer:
In order for you to have a full scholarship you have to have REALLY good grades, test scores, and financial need. Most universities look at your FAFSA application so they can see whether you have financial need. In some cases, when you don't have extreme financial need, but you do have really good grades, they give you such scholarships.
