I currently live in western New Your (Rochester). I plan on moving out to the mid-west at the beginning of the next school year. I am a sophomore at a community college and plan on attending community college for one more year out west. Just curious what people have to say about living in Des Moines, Iowa as i plan on moving downtown in early august. What do you have to say about Des Moines everything from weather to night life to even things like taxes and overall living.

Des Moines is a "Big Small Town". That is the best way to describe it. Without writing too much, I will try to describe Des Moines in words. People are friendly. Low cost of living. There are a dozen or so great restaurants. The Iowa State Fair (in August) is awesome for many reasons. No traffic. No lines. Not much live music (boo). There are some cool bars downtown. Spring is nice. Summer is nice. Fall is nice. Winter sucks. Lots of bike trails. Safe. Clean. There is a certain midwest mentality. If you have friends here, there are fun things to do. If you don't know anyone, you will make friends easy if you try. I have lived here 38 years. Besides dreading winter, I have fun with friends but often wish that there was more to do. The night life has kind of a "weekend warrior" feel. If you like to go out on school nights, you will find the bars pretty slow. I like dive bars, so it works for me. If I see you out, I'll buy you a beer :)

How do I get from Des Moines to Mt Hua in China?

Ok, I've heard alot about Mt Hua in China. I would love to visit there someday. I have done hours of research and I just can't find an airport close to the mountain. Is there a direct flight from Des Moines to the Xian Airport (which is near the mountain) or do I have to fly to another part of China and then take a second flight to Xian? Any help would be much appreciated.

pls try to find flight to Beijing or Shanghai or HOngkong first, then find connection to Xian. Mr Hua is in shaanxi province, so Xian is probably the nearest large airport as it's the capital of shaanxi.

I lived in Iowa for 15 years. We always had tornado warnings and everything.. but they usually didn't happen. The only time I've seen them they were in open fields.. But there's definitely a chance one could hit. It's at the tip of tornado alley. They still get some pretty crazy weather there though..
