Answer: I grew up in SD and I wouldn't even worry about it. Huron is a small town that is mostly white but that's not to say there aren't any other races living there. People living in SD are generally very kind and accepting. Your son will have no problems as long as he speaks English well and treat others kindly too! GOOD LUCK! |

What caused the chain of lakes from Great Bear Lake in Canada to Lake Ontario? Question: Looking at my globe, I would have to say that the chain of lakes (Great Bear, Slave, Athabasca, Lynn, Winnipeg, Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario & many others) is, by length and size of bodies, a unique fresh water geologic feature on the planet. The East African chain Victoria-Nyasa is much smaller. The N. American giant fresh water lake chain includes by my count about 22 other lakes some of which, like Champlain and Abitibi, look small relative to the others but may be part of the same geologic formation? Is this the path of one humongous glacial advance/retreat or "random fresh water lakes"? I had thought the glacial advance was North to south not NW to SE. Anyhow if this lake chain has a name and a generally accepted explanation I would like to hear it. I know Athbasaka has its own glacier but "that's just now." Other members of this chain are no longer fed by glaciers. Very interested to see what answers and information the Geology mavens can provide. Answer: i still feel the possibilities of a lot of glacial and early formative fault planes to be a part of the structural formations.........meteor impacts played a large part in the early formative stages....and the earth......if thats what we call this planet........and everything deriveved from it has a history of slow and fast changes...in most cases the life forms seem to parallel the weather and atmospheric conditions and certain geological areas produced variations of the same species.....some fossils leave not only the imprints but a time map....that is if volcanics or meteor impacts happened later there would be no fossilized evedence left.............yes i feel the idea yr holding to has merrit.....but please also realize that only a few generations ago...no one could sit and hold a globe modle of the earth andponder the formation and process that occurd........some of the 'great thinkers were not thinkers but modlers.........there is a great possibility that the great lakes was just a drainage basi that was the border of the land mass and the early ocean......a meteor oir meteor crack up could have broken the surface and brought a volcanic erruption it then could have been glaciated leaving no traces.......i remember sitting around camp fires in the arctic and milling over these possibles....one geologist proposed it may have been the same epoch of meteor impacts as there appears to be that linage....................well that leaves more questions....but thats yahoo |
